The N:C ratio is a term used to describe how much cytoplasm there is in a cell compared to how big or small the nucleus is.

Cells with a high N:C ratio have a small amount of cytoplasm compared to the size of the nucleus.

Cells with a low N:C ratio have a large amount of cytoplasm compared to the size of the nucleus.
