Ultrasound Gel is a Cytologic Annoyance 😤

If you asked these cells what was on their nerves today, they'd say ultrasound gel.

Ultrasound gel looks like globby, magenta bits microscopically. If there's enough of it, it can really interfere with interpreting the cells in the sample!

What may not seem like a lot of gel on the patient can actually be a crap ton when you're looking at it under the microscope.

So, be sure to completely wipe the gel off your patient before taking your FNA! Your pathologist will thank you.
