Meet Dr. Baker

Hey fellow vet med nerd,
I'm Dr. Baker, and I'm so glad you're here!
When I turned 16, I asked for the textbook “Pathologic Basis of Disease” for my birthday. I’m sure I also asked for something cool like a pink furry steering wheel cover (well, early 2000s cool…), but truly, all I wanted was that dang book (Spoiler alert: I got it!). I didn’t realize it at the time, but thanks to my love for animals and TV shows like “Mystery Diagnosis”, the wheels were already set in motion for my launch into forever-nerdiness.
Fast forward to almost 2 decades later, and I’m now living my dream of being a veterinary pathologist. Every day I get to unwrap the puzzles hidden in the tiny microscopic world we all live in (which really is crazy fascinating, y’all), and work with veterinarians to diagnose their patients. But in my first year as a fledgling pathologist, I realized something felt like it was missing. I didn’t have anyone to share the cool things I was seeing with! Aside from my dog who really wasn’t interested, it felt like a waste for only my eyes to see these amazing things.
And from that void, I’ve uncovered a deep passion for teaching and sharing all things cytology with the veterinary community, and making it fun and down-to-earth along the way! Helping veterinarians and veterinary technicians/nurses understand and get excited by cytology has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career yet. And in today’s digital age, it has never been easier to share and learn. From sharing fascinating cases on social media (check out my Facebook and Instagram pages!) to hosting RACE-approved continuing education courses, I’m just one pathologist on a mission to provide veterinary professionals a source of useful but also entertaining education in veterinary cytology!
